Nokia to take full control of Symbian - Will it hurt Google??

Symbian OS logoImage via WikipediaNokia, the world’s largest mobile maker, has stepped up the pressure on Apple and Google, the US technology companies, after offering on Tuesday to buy Symbian, which makes operating systems for so-called smart mobile phones.

The Finnish company wants to acquire the 52 per cent of Symbian that it does not already own for around $410m and then offer Symbian’s software for free use as an operating system for mobile phone handsets.

The move means that Symbian’s software will compete directly with operating systems used by Research In Motion, maker of the Blackberry, Apple, maker of the iPhone, and Microsoft. The proposed Symbian deal also comes ahead of the release of Google’s own Android operating system later this year.

The deal is significant because smart phones will provide the next battleground in the development of the mobile phone industry.

Mobile Search - Nokia Vs Google Vs Nuance T9 Nav

Today i came to know about the new mobile search application T9 Nav from Nuance. I already have Nokia Search and Google Search on my mobile.

T9 Nav runs as a daemon and when you type in in the home menu, it gets activated and gives the search results. It looks good. It supports contacts, settings, media files, bookmarks, applications, calendar entries. It is still in beta. I tried it for some keywords. It looks good! But I like Nokia search.

Nokia Search is very good. It combines local mobile search and internet search also. And it supports SMS, email messages and files along with other contents supported by T9 Nav. The look and feel of Nokia search application is very good.

Google will launch their Google Mobile (similar to Google Desktop) soon. But they launched Google search - their internet search client. It is also good. We don't need to start the browser and navigate to the Google to search for something. Instead when you press the edit key, Google Search gets activated and you can directly google!! It is not supporting the browser configuration - always opens the default browser. we cannot change the default browser to Opera Browser..

All are good! I will continue to use Nokia Search and Google Search. T9 Nav ?? letz see their next release...and ofcourse i am waiting for Google Mobile :)
